Stanley – Berthold successfully defended their title of the Lions Holiday Tournament in Stanley with a 75-72 win over Stanley, but things were far from easy for the Bombers in their title defense.
Neither team was very sharp in the opening minutes of the game. The Stanley Blue Jays would settle in first and push out to a 15 point lead in the first half. The Bombers were able to steady the ship late in the 2nd quarter and close the gap to two points at the half.
The Bombers were able to turn things on in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Blue Jays 25-16 to take a 7 point lead into the 4th quarter. The Bombers were paced by a tournament high 30 points by junior Garrett Hanson.
The Blue Jays would show plenty of resolve in the 4th quarter and clawed back to give themselves a late second opportunity for the win, but were unable to convert.
There were plenty of positive takeaways from the game for Blue Jays. Wyatt Hanson may have missed his first couple shots of the night, but he sure didn’t miss many after that. Hanson poured in a team high four 3-pointers, on his way to a season high 26 points. Logan Aadnes chipped in 14 points for the Blue Jays, Aadnes was also able to handle the Bombers press exceptionally well for much of the game.
The Blue Jays (2-1) will pick things up after the Christmas break with a home game against rival Tioga.
