Stanley – The Stanley Blue Jays were able to outlast the Des Lacs- Burlington Lakers 54-50 in girls hoops action in Stanley.
The Blue Jays got off to a slow start and found themselves down 5 points after the first quarter, they would rally in the 2nd quarter to take a five point lead into halftime. Senior Maddie Meiers drained a 3-pointer at the half-time buzzer, she had 11 of her game high 19 points in the 2nd quarter.
The game would go back and forth in the second half with neither team able to build any type of significant lead. The Blue Jays were finally able to pull ahead by 4 points in the final seconds of the game following a couple of clutch Maddie Meiers free-throws.
“Maddie had a couple of And-1’s and we protected the ball a lot better in the second quarter than we did in the first quarter,” said Blue Jays Coach Kelly Roemmich.
Meiers led the charge for the Blue Jays offensively, fellow senior Savanah Meyer chipped in 13 points for Stanley including a team high 7 in the 4th quarter.
The Blue Jays (5-3) enter the Christmas break on a high note. They will host the Tioga Pirates on Jan 2nd.
