Stanley – Wyatt Hanson and Logan Aadnes came alive at the right time to lead the Blue Jays past the Pirates in boys basketball action.
The Pirates held a five point lead with four minutes left and it looked as though they may put the game way. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Logan Aadnes had other plans. The talented junior helped the Blue Jays tie the game with one minute left, Aadnes had 9 of his team high 17 points in the pivotal fourth quarter. “We were able to keep it together. We kept working the ball around and started to finish in the paint,” said Aadnes.
The Blue Jays were able to get a few key stops defensively in the last minute, this would set things up for Hanson to seal the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds.
Stanley wasn’t always sharp defensively. They were however, able to make some big plays down the stretch, something coach Kory Anderson is hoping to build on. “Our goal as a team is to be the best defense in the region. We threw out the challenge to the guys in the final timeout, you guys get a stop, we win the game.”
The Blue Jays are also building valuable bench depth that will be needed if they are going to make a deep run this season. “Rayne Macintosh has not played many varsity minutes. He worked hard all Christmas break, as a coaching staff we told each other that we were going to give this kid a chance off the bench. He got in there and did exactly what we needed him to do, he got some steals, rebounds and scored some buckets for us. We are pretty excited about how he was able to keep himself ready to come off the bench and help out,” said Anderson. Macintosh keeps things simple out there, “I just try to do whatever I can to help the team, I just go out there and hustle,” said Macintosh.
Macintosh chipped in 5 points for Stanley, senior Kellen Enget also had 6 crucial points off of the bench for the Blue Jays. Mansfield, Hanson, and Nesheim all scored in double digits for Stanley.
The Blue Jays (3-1) travel to Powers Lake on January, 8th.
