Third quarter surge propels Blue Jays past Ranchers

Powers Lake – The Stanley Blue Jays were able to rebound from a shaky first half to glide past the Powers Lake Ranchers in boys basketball action Friday night.

The Ranchers lead 19-18 at halftime, but the Blue Jays turned the tide in the pivotal 3rd quarter by going on a 19-9 run. Sophomore Wyatt Hanson poured in 26 points to pace the Blue Jays offensively.

“It was a tail of two halves,” said Stanley Blue Jays coach Kory Anderson. “They came out in a sagging 2-3 zone and we couldn’t hit a shot. Second half Wyatt hit some outside shots and we were able to get the ball inside the paint a bit better. Credit to coach Carlson as he always gets his kids max effort. The Powers Lake kids communicate so well and always make thing difficult. Defensively we played well but fouled way too much and had a handful of mental errors that led to some easy points for them. We must learn to communicate with each other outside of texting. With all that said, district wins are always tough to come by, especially against one of coach Carlson’s teams. We will take it.”

The Stanley Blue Jays will host Berthold on Tuesday at 7pm.

Halftime: Powers Lake 19, Stanley 18

Stanley (54): W. Hanson 26, K. Hanson 15,  Nesheim 4, Patten 4, Aadnes 2, Meyer 2, Dusek 1
