Sherwood – The Stanley Blue Jays picked up a non-conference road win over the M-L-S Mavericks on Thursday.
The Blue Jays were able to jump out to an early lead and never wavered en route to a 57-34 victory.
Blue Jay sophomore Abby Iverson and senior Maddie Meiers paced Stanley offensively, both players had 17 points for Stanley. Freshman Haley Schmidt added a season high 6 points for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays were able to play solid team defense throughout the game, holding the Mavericks to 17 points in each half.
There were a lot of positive takeaways for the Blue Jays as they inch closer to playoff time. “We fought hard on defense and limited them to a lot of one shot and done possessions because we rebounded well tonight,” said Blue Jays coach Kelly Roemmich. “Offensively we made some nice plays, but we still have times where we don’t finish the plays like I would like to see. The girls worked really hard tonight.”
The Blue Jays host New Town on Saturday.
