Tioga- The North Dakota District 16 Boys Basketball Tournament kicks off this Friday in Tioga.
The Stanley Blue Jays enter the tournament as the #2 seed, they will face the #7 seed Divide County Maroons. The Blue Jays will tip off at approximately 6:30pm on Friday in Ray.
#1 Kenmare- The Honkers finished with an unblemished record against District 16 teams, Kenmare has a bye in the first round.
#2 Stanley- The Stanley Blue Jays only loss in the district came against Kenmare (48-45). The Blue Jays hold two large wins over their first round opponent Divide County. The Blue Jays are probably the deepest team in the district, something that should benefit them during tournament time.
#3 Powers Lake – The Powers Lake Ranchers won 2 out 3 against their first round opponent Burke County. The Ranchers lack of length could make them vulnerable to an upset but they have also shown they can hang with more talented teams on consistent basis.
#4 Tioga – Tioga is a bit of an enigma, the Pirates hold three wins over their first round opponent Ray, but they are also 3-6 in their last nine games.
#5 Ray- Ray is 6-13 on the year and their first round draw doesn’t appear to be a favorable one on paper. However, the Jays have been competitive in most of their losses, I expect their first round match to be a good one.
#6 Burke County – The Titans started the season 4-1 but they have run into a tough stretch, losing 9 of their last 13.
#7- Divide County – The Divide County Maroons have had a tough run this season. They haven’t had much success against their first round opponent the Stanley Blue Jays.
