Ray – The New Town Eagles picked up a 73-49 win over the Stanley Blue Jays in the opening round of the Region 8 Girls Basketball Tournament.
The Blue Jays hoped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game but the Eagles would take over after that and take a 38-22 lead into halftime.
The Eagles were able to bottle up the Blue Jay offense with intense ball pressure in their half court defense. Many of Stanley’s shot attempts were heavily contested by New Town and second chances opportunities were difficult to come by for the Blue Jays.
Stanley also struggled defensively to contain New Town’s Marveen Ross, the talented freshman had 12 points and dished out a handful of assists for the Eagles.
Senior Lacey Meiers paced the Blue Jay attack with 20 points, many of which were hard earned down low.
The Stanley Blue Jays season comes to a close with a 15-7 record.
