Coaches comments:

“Abby Iverson returns with the most varsity experience and we look to her to lead a young team. We have a great group of student athletes that are showing great work ethic in the gym so far and a positive energetic mindset! We look to be competitive as season rolls along, we will start with a lot of room to grow,” said Stanley Blue Jay head coach Jessica Niemitalo.

Thoughts from the Stanley Gazette:

The Stanley Blue Jays volleyball program has had its share of success in recent memory, 5 trips to the state tournament since 2008 is prime evidence of that. Last year started off rocky but the Blue Jays were able to rally to win 7 of their last 10 matches to end the year on a high note and advance to the region 8 tournament.

Stanley has an experienced coaching staff that has won a lot of matches during their tenure. The Blue Jays also boast one of the top all-around athletes in the region with Abby Iverson, the junior will have some heavy lifting to do early on in the season to help lead the inexperienced Blue Jays.

Stanley may face some early season speed bumps due to the plethora of new faces that will be seeing their first varsity action. Thankfully, the Blue Jays coaching staff is strong and Iverson has proven that she is capable of playing at high level in multiple sports, this should help smooth out the ride. We expect the Blue Jays to once again peak at the right time and be a difficult team to play come tournament time.

When can you see the Blue Jays in action?

The Stanley Blue Jay Volleyball home opener will be on Sept. 1st vs. Burke County (7pm).
