Tioga – The Kenmare Honkers had a bit too much firepower for the Stanley Blue Jays in the semifinals of the North Dakota District 16 Volleyball Tournament.
The Blue Jays fell behind early in the first two sets and were unable to claw all the way back in either of them. Stanley found themselves down big again in the third set and it looked like the wheels might be coming off the track for the Blue Jays before senior Kassie Meyer picked up two kills to start a Blue Jay rally. Stanley was able to battle all the way back to take their first lead of the set 17-16, but the Honkers would answer right back however and ease away with a 25-21 victory in the final set.
McKayla Neubauer and the rest of the Honkers attack kept the Blue Jays off balance all night with exceptional passing and strong finishes. Neubauer had a game high 11 kills to lead Kenmare. Shelby Brekus added a game high 33 assists for the Honkers.
Abby Iverson had 9 kills to pace the Blue Jays offensively, including some gym rattling hits in the second set.
Stanley will face Burke County on Thursday at 4pm.
