Tioga – The Kenmare Honkers were able to outlast the Powers Lake Ranchers in 4 sets to claim the North Dakota District 16 Championship in Tioga.
The first set was a breeze for Kenmare 25-13, but it would be hard earned for the Honkers from then on. The next set was competitive throughout, with both teams displaying some incredible defense. Numerous heavy hits from Powers Lake players Sydney Titus, Grace Hove and Brianna Honrud were met with equally as impressive digs from the Kenmare back line. Kenmare had some trouble breaking through the Powers Lake block as well. Eventually the Ranchers would sneak out of the second set with 25-23 win to even the score at 1-1.
Powers Lake was a bit sloppy in the third set and the Honkers took advantage with a 25-18 victory to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set was the most thrilling of them all. The Ranchers jumped out to commanding 13-6 lead and it looked like the match was poised for a 5th set to determine the champion. Kenmare would rally back and eventually take a 23-22 lead after a huge Sierra Overton kill. Kenmare would take the next two points to complete the comeback and grab the district championship.
