Stanley tips Bottineau in season opener

By Ian Grande

Minot – The season opener for the Stanley Blue Jay Girls Basketball team turned out to be quite the thriller.

The Blue Jays jumped out to an early 17-9 lead, but the Bottineau Stars would claw back. The game close would be close the rest of the way.

Bottineau found themselves with the ball and trailling by just three points with under 20 seconds left. This set the stage for Blue Jay sophomore Danae Vachal to come up with a huge steal. The Stars would eventually foul Abby Iverson with just over 4 seconds left, the junior would miss the front end of a one-and-one but senior Caitlyn Enger grabbed the game sealing rebound to run out the clock.

The Stanley Blue Jays will take on the Burke County Titans at 6pm on Monday in the first round of the Tioga Tip-Off Tournament. The Stanley Gazette will have a Live Video Stream of the game on the Stanley Gazette Homepage.
