Ranchers rally to top Blue Jays in District 16 hoops

Stanley –  The Powers Lake Ranchers would rally late to come away with a 57-53 win over the Stanley Blue Jays.  The matchup figured to be a hard fought battle featuring two teams that should be in the mix for the District 16 title, it didn’t disappoint.

The Blue Jays were in control early on behind some hot shooting from senior Ryan Nesheim who picked up 7 of his 11 points in the first quarter.

The Blue Jays held a 24-14 lead with 2 minutes left in the first half before Powers Lake sophomore Aiden Nordloef hit a 3 pointer to cut the lead to 7 points.

The Blue Jays would hang onto the lead until the fourth quarter before the Ranchers mounted a rally. Senior Tate Enget got the party started for Powers Lake with a 3 pointer with 7 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to four points. Tarek Enget and Logan Klitzke would pick up back to back baskets less than a minute later to tie the game 44-44.

Stanley would grab the lead back on a Matt Patten drive but Klitzke would answer right back with a three pointer to give the Ranchers their first lead of the game with a little over 5 minutes left.  Following another Powers Lake basket, Klitzke would another 3 pointer to extend the Ranchers lead to 6 points.

The Ranchers would hold that lead until Seth Hetzel hit a long 3 pointer to cut the lead to 3 with a little over a minute remaining. Hetzel would get another good look with under 10 seconds left to tie the game but it would rattle out.

Tate Enget would hit the front end of a 1-1 to seal the game for Powers Lake. Enget and Klitzke both had 8 points in the 4th quarter, Klitzke led all scorers with 19 points.

Logan Aadnes paced the Blue Jays with 16 points.
