Stanley – The Stanley Blue Jays were able to rally in the fourth quarter to take home a thrilling District 16 victory over the Kenmare Honkers.
The Blue Jays found themselves down 7 points in the fourth quarter but they would outscore the Honkers 20 to 9 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.
Hayley Schmidt had herself quite the night. The Blue Jay sophomore hit her first three pointer of the season with 55 seconds left to give the Blue Jays their first lead since early in the 3rd quarter. Schmidt wasn’t done playing the hero, she would seal the game for the Blue Jays by snaring in a contested rebound with under ten seconds left, Schmidt drew a foul on the play and put the game out of reach by cashing in a free-throw. The last minute was a fitting end to an excellent game for Schmidt who was excellent on both ends of the floor for the Blue Jays.
Abby Iverson and Caitlyn Enger both scored in double digits for the Blue Jays. Iverson had a game high 18 points, Enger had 11 points.
The game was a rematch of last year’s District 16 championship game, both teams figure to be tough outs in the District Tournament again this season.
The Blue Jays will travel to New Town on Saturday to take on the Eagles who received votes in the latest Class B Girls Basketball Poll.
