Kenmare – Tonight’s match-up between the Kenmare Honkers and Stanley Blue Jays figured to be an excellent game featuring two of the top teams in Region 8, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
The Blue Jays appeared to be in firm control of the game early in the 3rd quarter when they held a commanding 16 point lead. That changed quickly when the Rodin brothers took over the game and cut the lead down to 2 points a few minutes later, the brothers scored 16 of their teams 20 points in the 3rd quarter.
The Blue Jays would rally once again early in the fourth quarter behind some clutch plays by Matt Patten, the junior scored 10 of his team high 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Just as the Blue Jays looked like they were going to put the game out of reach, the Rodin brother answered once again. The brothers were unstoppable down the stretch and with just over a minute left the Honkers would grab their first lead since early in the first quarter.
The Blue Jays would have some opportunities to send the game to overtime in the final seconds, but they couldn’t get anything to fall.
Jacob Rodin finished with a game high 31 points, 19 of which came in the second half. Hunter Rodin scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half. The brother also combined for five 3-pointers.
Logan Aadnes added 17 points for the Blue Jays.
The win clinches the #1 seed for the Kenmare Honkers, they move to 16-2 with the win.
The Blue Jays will host Burke County on Thursday in their final home game.
