Stanley cruises to Region 8 Championship

Article by Ian Grande

Williston – The Stanley Blue Jays are partying like it’s 1938. It has been 79 years since the Blue Jays last trip to the State Tournament, but the Blue Jays blew past the Kenmare Honkers in the Region 8 Championship 79-47 to ensure that the drought ended this year.

Stanley picked an opportune time to turn in their best game of the season, jumping out to a huge lead at halftime and never looking back.

Junior Wyatt Hanson came up with another huge game for the Blue Jays, pouring in a game high 26 points (10-15 FG). Junior Kaedyn Hanson played his best game of the post season, scoring 19 points and pulling in 11 rebounds. Kaedyn Hanson finished an impressive 9 of 10 from the field.

Senior Logan Aadnes capped off a strong tournament with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. He was also a perfect 3 for 3 from beyond the arc.

The Honkers had mounted so many incredible comebacks this season that it seemed inevitable that they would make a second half run to close the gap, but the Blue Jays were bound and determined to end that state tournament drought.

Instead of allowing the Honkers to rally, the Blue Jays kept extending their lead, even pushing the game into running time for the final 3 minutes, aided in large part by incredibly hot shooting from the field (62%).

Sophomore Seth Hetzel was also a bright spot for the Blue Jays, coming off of the bench and hitting a couple of three pointers.

Senior Ryan Nesheim and junior Matt Patten were both steady for the Blue Jays as well, helping to keep the Honkers offense in check.

Junior Jacob Rodin paced the Honkers with 20 points.
