Meiers, Blue Jays extend winning streak to 5 with win over Jays

Stanley – Senior Kaydin Meiers continued his impressive play this season, striking out nine Ray Jay batters. Meier’s strong performance propelled the Blue Jays to an impressive 3-2 comeback victory.

Meiers was also strong at the plate, going 3-4 with 4 stolen bases.

The Blue Jays found themselves down 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Cole Anderson got the rally started for the Blue Jays with a line drive single. Mason Rice followed that up with a hit of his own, putting the winning run on base.

Anderson and Rice would advance on a wild pitch, putting the tying run on third. Anderson would score shortly after on a failed pick off attempt. The Ray Jays would come up with a couple of key defensive plays to set the table for a dramatic finish.

8th grader Chance Bieri was up to bat with two outs, while 8th Grader Jace Wenger was on third base and Meiers on first.

Meiers got an excellent jump and beat the throw down to second base, allowing Wenger to score the game winning run on a walk off double steal.

The win extends the Blue Jays winning streak to 5 games. (The Blue Jays also picked up a 9-5 victory in the second game (non-counter))

“We carried our momentum and confidence from our 4 game win streak with us as we battled with Ray today, allowing us to come away with a pair of wins,” said Stanley coach Cameron Lentz. “Our guys played their best baseball of the spring, and I was really impressed with their effort, willingness and strength to battle back from behind in the 7th. I was very impressed and proud of our guys.”

The Blue Jays will host Lewis and Clark on Tuesday in the opening round of the Region 7 Tournament.
