Lansford – The Region 7 Tournament is down to five teams. The action will kick off on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Lansford.
Here is a breakdown of the final five teams (seed):
(#1) Des Lacs-Burlington
The Lakers come into the tournament as the heavy favorites and one of the top teams in the entire state. The Lakers really don’t have any holes and feature a deep pitching staff that will give them an edge over the other teams in the Region.
The Lakers were undefeated in the region this season (very few close games).
The Lakers were ranked #3 in the latest MidcoSN poll.
The Muskrats are also a deep ball club that features a few excellent pitchers. Hunter Rodin has some strong stuff, the Muskrats also feature a few power pitchers as well.
The Muskrats split with their first round opponent Watford City in the regular season.
(#3) Watford City
The Wolves played a stiff schedule this season as they prepare to move up to Class A (non-conference game against Shiloh, Bishop Ryan, Williston JV, Dickinson JV).
Sophomore Brock Haugeberg has pitched well for the Wolves this season.
(#4) Ray Jays
The Jays feature one of the region’s top players in Garret Hodenfield. The junior has been lights out for the Jays this season and will be called upon to carry a lot of the load in the playoffs for them.
The Jays split with their first round opponent Stanley in the regular season.
(#5) Stanley Blue Jays
It has been a tale of two halves for the young Blue Jays. The inexperienced club went through some predictable growing pains early in the season but has found their groove late, winning their last 6 games.
Senior Kaydin Meiers and junior Cody Ruden headline the teams pitching staff, both have been strong all season. Meiers and fellow senior Mason Rice (Mayville State) have been steady at the plate this season for the Blue Jays.
The team features a pair of eighth graders (Chance Bieri and Jace Wenger) in their starting line-up. Both have progressed well throughout the season.
