Honkers clinch District 16 volleyball crown with win over Blue Jays

Stanley – The Kenmare Honkers entered Thursday night’s game with the Stanley Blue Jays knowing that a win would wrap up the District 16 Title. The Honkers left little doubt that they were the top team in the District with a convincing 3-0 victory.

The Honkers have dominated District 16 all season, surrendering only 1 set. Kenmare’s strong back row play was evident throughout, senior Shelby Brekhus was spot on all night from the setter position, and their hitting was devastating.

The Blue Jays showed some flashes of team that could make some real noise in the post season, unfortunately they also had stretches where their youth and inexperience was evident. When things were clicking for the Blue Jays they looked formidable on offense and defense:

Senior Sierra Overton had a game high 12 kills to pace the Honkers. Brekhus dished out a game high 24 assists.

Daphne Enander had a game high 14 digs for the Blue Jays.

Stanley will host Parshall on October 10th.
