Stanley – Noah Rolfe has quietly put together a strong season for the Blue Jay Cross Country team.
The Stanley Blue Jay freshman recently finished in 8th place at the West Region meet, earning himself a spot on the All-Region team.
That feat is even more impressive when you consider that the defending State Champion New Town Eagles are also in the Region. The Eagles feature 4 of the state’s top 6 runners in the latest coaches poll.
Rolfe’s improvement throughout the season and strong showing at the West Region meet has started to turn some heads around the state, “Rolfe has improved every week and showed the potential to earn a top 20 all-state spot at the west region meet by taking 8th overall,” said Jay Johnson (Editor of TheClassB.com).
The Blue Jay freshman knows that he will have his work cut out for him at state but he is ready to compete with the best. “Cross-country is unique in that you can never be fully prepared,” said Rolfe. “It is impossible to forecast exactly how a race is going to go, all you can do is be ready for some tough competition.”
Rolfe was relatively unknown before last year’s track season but started to make some noise late in the season. He has been able to draw on that experience and carry that momentum into this year’s cross-country season. “I try to remain focused on one goal at a time,” said Rolfe. “I use my mental readiness from track and I carry it to cross country. I focus on training to beat the guy in front of me, then I train to beat the next guy, and I do this not just to be good, but to be ready.”
The Blue Jay Cross Country team features an a All-Region runner on the girl’s side as well. Junior Shambre Feiring finished in 7th place at the West Region Cross Country meet to earn that honor.
Like Rolfe, Feiring also seems primed to perform well at the State Cross-Country meet. “Shambre is an experienced runner and has been one of the first ten class b kids to finish at almost all of her races this year,” said Johnson.
Feiring had a quality showing at last year’s State Cross-Country meet, finishing in 21st place. She has been strong once again this season and should find herself in the mix for an All-State spot.
