Killdeer – The #1 ranked Stanley Blue Jays blew past the Killdeer Cowboys 87-60 on Monday night.
Wyatt Hanson led all scorers with a career high 36 points, including a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. The high flying senior also had five dunks in the game, including an off the backboard alley-oop.
Hanson’s excellent play this season has him firmly in the Mr. Basketball conversation.
The excellent play of all of the Blue Jays has the team at 14-0 and in firm control of District 16.
“Our boys showed some guts today, said Stanley coach Kory Anderson. “We decided to apply pressure and press full court and it really got us going. Give Killdeer some credit as they kept fighting and took it to us late in the first half as we got a little gassed.”
Fellow senior Matt Patten had a nice game as well, narrowly missed a triple-double. He finished with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Seth Hetzel continued his streak of excellent play. The junior had a full stat sheet once again tonight (21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 steals, and 4 assists).
Hetzel’s offensive numbers are even more impressive considering he routinely guards the other team’s top player.
“Hetzel continues to take the challenge and chase around top scorers and doesn’t seem to get tired,” said Anderson.
Sophomore Rhett Hanson poured in a career high 10 points, he was 5 of 7 from the field.
“Rhett Hanson gave us some huge minutes when we got into some foul trouble, that gave us a great spark, said Anderson.”
The Blue Jays will host Parshall on Friday. That game will be live-streamed on the Stanley Gazette homepage.
