Region 8 Class B Basketball Tournament Preview

D15 #1 Watford City Wolves (12-10)

vs. 3PM

D16 #4 Powers Lake Ranchers (7-15)

Game notes: Watford City’s record is a little misleading, three of their losses came against Class A opponents, while another was to #1 ranked Shiloh Christian.

Watford City’s Avery Sundeen is one of the top players in Region 8 and she will lead the team’s offense.

However, it is Watford’s defense that makes them so difficult to play against. The Ranchers better be ready for full court pressure from the opening tip.

D16 #2 Divide County Maroons (17-5)

vs.  4:30 pm

D15 #3 New Town Eagles (17-5)

Game notes: This match-up features the top two juniors in Region 8, Divide County’s Lauryn Heide and New Town’s Tyleigh Brady. New Town also features Co-District 15 Senior Athlete of the Year Caitlyn Tveter.

The Eagles were the #1 seed in the District 15 Tournament but lost in the semifinals to Trenton 59-53.

If the Eagles get hot from deep, this game could be over quickly. If Kent Harding’s crew can keep this game from becoming a track meet, the Maroons will have a shot to move on.

D16 #1 Stanley Blue Jays (14-7)

vs. 6 pm

D15 #4 Mandaree Warriors (10-7)

Game notes: The Blue Jays Abby Iverson was named District 16 Senior Athlete of the Year last week. She is likely the front-runner for the Region 8 Senior Athlete of the Year award with her strong finish to the season.

The Warriors stunned the #3 seeded Parshall Braves 55-46 to make the Region 8 Tournament.

D16 #3 Kenmare Honkers

vs. 7:30 pm

D15 #2 Trenton Tigers

Game notes: The Tigers won the only meeting between these teams 65-38. The Tigers are lead by All-State sophomore Kaity Hove and a pair of freshman sisters (Alyssa and Alexa St. Pierre).

Trenton is by far the youngest team in the tournament and they aren’t very deep, but they are very well coached. They will be a tough out for anyone.

The Honkers suffered through a ten game losing streak early in the season, but they have won 6 of their last 9 games.
