Williston – Rhett Hanson dropped a career high 19 points to help lift the Blue Jays past the North Shore/Plaza Wildcats in the opening round of the Region 8 Tournament.
The sophomore hit a career high five 3-pointers, and seemed to give the Blue Jays a spark every time their offense started to get into a lull. “We’ve been telling Rhett he needs to look for his shot more and trust it,” said Stanley coach Kory Anderson. “He puts in a lot of extra shots after practice and is building confidence because of it. Coaching is always worth it when kids step up and play above themselves.”
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 22-point lead early in the third quarter before Kaedyn Hanson picked up his fourth foul. The next seven minutes would be all Wildcats and they would claw back to within 5 points, thanks in large part to some sharp shooting by sophomore Ty Edwards, who finished with 24 points.
Stanley would get Kaedyn Hanson back for the fourth quarter run and his presence down low immediately helped open up the perimeter for the rest of the Blue Jays.
Wyatt Hanson had an excellent game on both ends of the floor, the senior standout scored 28 points, 9 rebounds and had a pair of huge blocks in the post.
“The boys played some really good team defense in the first half,” said Anderson. “We gave up 20 offensive boards last time we played and tonight we gave up 6. That was a big difference along with some sharp shooting from Rhett.”
