Hanson, Rodin named to North Dakota All-State team

Article by Ian Grande,

The postseason awards keep piling up for Stanley’s Wyatt Hanson. Last week the senior won the North Dakota Class B Senior Athlete of the Year, as well as the Mr. Basketball Award. This week Hanson headlines the NDAPSSA All-State team. Joining Hanson on the All-State team is fellow Region 8 standout Jacob Rodin (Kenmare).

Hanson becomes the first player in Stanley basketball history to be named to the NDAPSSA All-State first team. He also becomes the first player in Stanley history to make the All-State team two years in a row.

“It’s exciting to know that Stanley not only had an All -State player but also a Mr. Basketball winner,” said Stanley coach Kory Anderson. “This whole season has really energized the entire community, especially the young kids of Stanley. I have had emails, phone calls, and conversations in person about how exited young kids are about Wyatt winning Mr. Basketball and the Stanley team as a whole.”

“Hard work pays off,” said Anderson. “Wyatt as well as others from this year’s team have dedicated a lot of time to the game of basketball. As a result they have been recognized individually and taken our program to a higher level.”

Hanson eclipsed the 2000-point mark earlier this season, he finished his career with 2249 points, good enough for 13th on the North Dakota Boys Basketball all-time score list (Hoopster).

Hanson has committed to play his collegiate basketball at Minnesota State Moorhead.

Kenmare’s Jacob Rodin had an incredible season this year as well. He lit up every statistical category. He averaged 26.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game during his senior season.

He eclipsed the 1000-point mark back in January, while helping to guide the Honkers to the Region 8 semifinals. He finished his career with 1,502 points.

Rodin turned in one of the most impressive prep performances of the season during the opening round of the Region 8 Tournament, when he scored 49 points and grabbed 16 rebounds against Mandaree. See article: Blue Jays top Wildcats, Rodin drops 49 points to propel Kenmare past Mandaree

Rodin was a prominent member of the Kenmare Honkers team that went to the State Tournament in 2016. He has excelled for the Honkers in football, basketball, and track for the last 4 seasons. He finished second in the 800 meters, and third in the 400 meters at last year’s State Track Meet.

Rodin’s older brother Hunter was named to the All-State team last season.
